Info:

I'm officially Mrs. Shyftr.  My husband Dave is the founder of Shyftr, and I help out with creating copy, brainstorming and being a creative outlet as the site grows each day.

In my non-Shyftr world, I own and run NYC A Cappella, a music arranging service for a cappella groups.  I also do freelance writing.    I have a beautiful daughter and my full-time job as Mom puts all of the other jobs to shame.

  2. Unless you walked down 39 flights of stairs like I did to pick up 2 gallons of water; only to then walk it all up 39 flights of stairs. That was rough. That being said, Bill Geist did a classic piece with a handheld video camera that day. I wonder if its online somewhere. - Dave   - 04/22/2008
  3. We did meet our neighbor for the first time that day though. We had to open our front door and then they opened theirs (directly across from us) so we had a nice cross wind. It was so hot I remember our dog was digging and digging on our bed for hours trying to cool off and get comfortable. - Randi   - 04/23/2008

  1. That should read, "Ideally, the comments would appear in both...". - jeber   - 04/12/2008
  2. Great article. I agree 100% that it's about changing the mindset. Of course I'm sitting here, stuck, trying to think of another example where lots of people were up in arms about a new approach to something, and it just was a matter of time before people embraced it and said, "Ok we just have to look at this in a new light."

If only I had an example... I'll come back...
    - Randi   - 04/12/2008
  3. i have always said in any aspect of life; having the entire story (read as full feed) is always the best alternative. content theft is and well continue to be a problem, however, one i am sure, which will be addressed by developers. yet another 'land of opportunity' created by the internet.

the lack of 'robust user ability' you have at most reader services is exactly the reason i have become a happy shyftr user. there are many times during the day that i bounce between just reading a feed, commenting at the originating blog/web site, commenting here at shyfter for fellow users and friends to see/read/communicate about; or doing drill down research for my own edification.

amazingly (read as a snicker at the unfortunate users as described in the article and that i use to be one of) i can now do all that and more right here. shyftr in it's "beta" form is amazing. can you imagine what is coming down the pipe?

ill regardless of how one gets to shyftr, it is the service which delivers the broadest options AND a developing sense of community. i don't know about everyone else here, but i for one am enjoying the ride and will be holding on to his hat as shyftr continues to explode. it has too; read the article as yesterdays complaints. we have an 'ombudsman' and it called shyftr. problem identified and solved.
trust me, i'm just waiting for the 'inital public offering' now.

  1. @briansolomon When you're reading the feed in the reader, you will be able to view the full post if the publisher is distributing it in full. Around discussions, we're only displaying the title and author - not the body. - Dave   - 04/15/2008
  2. After using shyftr for about 10 minutes, my main concern is that when I click on a link in the Popular section, I am not given more information instantly about the original article in question. It almost adds an extra unneeded step between me and the website who's content I am trying to read. Take this post for example, this is all the information I'm given upfront:

"Fine, I'll Say It: Shyftr Crosses The Line
    3 days ago"

Wheres the beef? How am I expected to comment on an article when I have only a faint idea of what it encompasses?
    - Jeebus   - 04/15/2008
  3. Jeebus, we absolutely understand your concern. It was also important that we listen to the concerns of the bloggers that were upset. After listening to those concerns and discussing the issue internally, this was the format that we chose. I think in time we'll be able to build a bridge that establishes an ideal experience for everyone. Thanks for sharing your opnion. - Dave   - 04/16/2008

  1. So here's my feeling. If readers stop READING these articles and buying these magazines and creating the demand for pictures of annoying Heidi and Spencer, they will go away. These pictures are so ridiculous. I think my husband and I had much better Easter photos. That's right, because we are Jewish. - Randi   - 03/24/2008

  3. The authors of this blog have serious mental issues. Not to mention, they sure don't make it easy to find out who wrote what.

Even for a garbage rag like this, it's pretty low to not even identify yourself when you trash other people. Even ValleyWag has the decency to stand up and claim their slander.

  1. I am the queen of getting sample sizes for every last bottle of shampoo when I go to hotels, etc. I should follow this rule because my daughter's medicine cabinet is FULL of toiletries that have been sitting around for years. No more buying things until they're done. I just save them for travel, house guests, etc but it's out of control clutter. - Randi   - 03/22/2008

"Mann Act, a 1910 law that outlaws traveling across state lines for prostitution"

  2. Yeah, the lack of big chunks of glass leads me to believe it's fake. Plus, there wasn't any glass left hanging around the frame. Not that I see people falling through glass windows everyday, but you'd think that there would be pieces still holding onto the frame. - Dave   - 03/12/2008
